Basic Function:

Directly responsible for all case management tasks and the provision of individual or group counseling to assigned students whose Individual Education Plan calls for such services.  Maintains the overall goal of providing for each student a program reflecting educational excellence and equality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides assessment and treatment services to assigned students and their families in accordance with the child's IEP and as requested by the Local Education Agency (LEA). Provides counseling services as prescribed by the IEP.
2. Provides guidance and assistance to the Education staff in order to enhance the delivery of effective educational services to the students.  Acts as a consultant to the education staff in all areas related to mental health.
3. Serves as liaison with all community providers appropriate to the case, including the LEA, and any other human service organizations, which may presently or in the near future be involved with the child and family.
4. Assesses options for the students returning to the home school district for education or for being educated in another setting, and participation in researching and discussing such options with other appropriate staff and outside service providers.
5. Maintains the student’s clinical file including detailed contact and progress notes. Maintains accurate records and documentation of services provided.
6. Serves as a member of the Education staff, attending all Education department meetings, appropriate Education and Interdisciplinary Team meetings (for placement and review).
7. Provides crisis support and assistance as needed.  Assists with crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary.
8. Participates in scheduled and on-going staff development workshops and programs.  Participates in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in school social work.  In addition to professional development opportunities provided by the agency, including but not limited to TCI and CARE.
9. Maintains effective communication with students and colleagues.  Collaborates with teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers
10. Coordinate, with staff, a behavioral assessment for each student for PPT discussion.  Attend PPTs for assigned students. Develops goals and objectives for students with IEP counseling services.  Prepare social work updates in advance of the PPT.
11. Participates in developing, with the Clinical Supervisor, an annual supervision plan through mutual goal setting.
12. Serves as liaison between home and school. Engages family in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
13. Collaborates with community agencies to ensure that families have access to needed services and resources. 
14. Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary.
15. Complete risk and threat assessments when necessary.
16. Assists with social emotional lessons in the classroom.
17. Provides target group interventions based on identified student needs that are not mandated through IEP services.
18. Maintains knowledge of and follows Agency procedures as contained in the WCS Personnel Handbook, WCS Procedure Manual, and other Agency manuals.
19. Functions as a positive role model for all students and staff at Waterford Country School.
20. Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
21. Maintain access to and comply with current and ethical professional standards of the discipline in which they are credentialed.
22. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Education/Principal.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Social Work or related field. Current Connecticut School Social Worker certification 071or 268

Salary : $57,000 - $93,657
