Flsa Designation

Non-Exempt; 10 months; 35 hours per week; some weekend and evening hours required. Note: This is a union, grant funded position with benefits that exists as long as funds are available. $20.97 per hour

Part i - Summary Of Classification

This class is accountable for providing parent outreach services that will benefit Title I students and their families for the District.

Part Ii - Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

General Experience

  • High School Diploma or a general education development (GED) certificate and three (3) years of full-time employment or equivalent work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.

Substitutions Allowed

  • College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years for an Associate’s degree.

Special Requirements

  • Must have residence in the school attendance area or familiarity with attendance concerns in the school area.
  • Must be available during school hours and some evenings.
  • Must be able to attend District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) meetings on state, regional and national levels if funds are available.
  • Must implement at least five (5) parent information sessions.
  • CREDENTIALS:
  • LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a current Motor Vehicle Class D Operator’s License.
  • CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbents in this class are expected to be trained in and be current in all aspects of the program.

  • Knowledge of the similarities and differences between cognitive, communicative, physical, social, and emotional needs of students and the factors that influence these different needs;
  • Knowledge of and respect for the diverse backgrounds (cultural, linguistic, environmental) of students and how these characteristics affect the student’s life and learning;
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Scientific Research Based Interventions (SRBI);

  • Ability to assist and reinforce elements that support a safe, healthy, and effective teaching and learning environment;

  • Ability to follow oral and written direction of licensed teachers, seeking clarification as needed;

  • Ability to participate as a member of the educational team when requested to attend conferences with families or primary caregivers, with an understanding of some of the concerns of parents;

  • Ability to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: proficiency reading, speaking, and writing, in English and the target language;
  • Ability to use ethical practices for confidential communication about students;
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students and their families and other external stakeholders;
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Part Iv - Essential Functions

The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.

  • Addresses or conveys parents’ questions and concerns to appropriate school staff for the purpose of supporting student success;
  • Assists English language learning and other families in locating community resources for the purpose of promoting parent effectiveness and student achievement;
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting students in the completion of their work activities;
  • Assists with the organization and implementation of events and activities for the purpose of promoting parent involvement;
  • Collects and disseminates information to parents and community agencies about events at the school;
  • Coordinate assignments of tasks and training of volunteers;
  • Encourage partnership between parents, school and community;
  • Interprets and information (e.g. school closures, locations, hours, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in the communication between English language learning families and school staff and assisting the students and their family’s incompletion of required forms;
  • Maintain logs and data related to parental involvement;
  • Maintains a variety of records (e.g. immigration information, surveys, conference logs) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation;
  • Make phone calls and home visits to parents who may need assistance;
  • Participates in required in service activities for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing work related skills;
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. reports, memorandum, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities providing written reference and/or conveying information;
  • Provide a consistent community presence in the school;
  • Recruits parents and other volunteers to support the educational programs of the school and participate in school activities and conferences as it applies to Title I;
  • Translates written and/or verbal communications (e.g. telephone calls, notes, bulletins, progress reports, etc.) for the purpose of keeping parents informed of matters concerning the education of their children and informing them of District-sponsored events and activities;
  • Performs other related duties as required.
