SCOPE OF POSITION:
|
|
The critical care resource nurse serves as a clinical, educational, and professional resource within the organization, providing advanced nursing expertise to support staff and optimize patient care outcomes. This position requires expert knowledge and clinical nursing skills in the management of the critically ill patient population. The resource nurse will function as a role model, mentor, and consultant to nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams, supporting quality care and evidence-based practice. This position reports to the Director of Nursing Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
|
- Serves as clinical expert and organizational resource to maintain, enhance, and advance nursing practice in critical care.
|
- Validate and evaluate staff competencies and skills based on employee specific needs assessment.
|
- Identify, communicate, and collaborate with clinical director, manager, and educator regarding competency gaps .
- Facilitate efficient on-going patient care and workflow on unit, participating in functions as needed.
- Respond promptly to hospital wide emergencies including but not limited to Code 3, Rapid Response, and Stroke Alert.
- Transport monitored patients for procedures and diagnostic testing.
- Assist with coordination of ICU admissions, discharges, and transfers to ensure appropriate patient placement and continuity of care.

- Troubleshoot, evaluate, and support the safe use of advanced equipment.

- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to align patient condition
|
- Facilitates understanding of skills and processes for staff and students, formally or informally, to enhance their ability to provide patient care.
|
- Works with the Medical Care Team to facilitate patient flow and appropriateness of level of care to patient condition. Support clinical decision making.
- Maintains and develops own clinical expertise and knowledge in specialty nursing practice.
- Performs sepsis alert reviews
|
- Performs other duties as assigned in alignment with organizational needs.

REQUIREMENTS:
|
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
|
- Current CT RN license in good standing.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (must be maintained).
|
- Maintenance of the above required licenses and/or certifications
- Three (3) years minimum of critical care experience required.
|
- Previous/current preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred.
- Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage and troubleshoot advanced medical equipment.
- Working knowledge of critical care protocols, procedures, and best practices.

- Evidence of on-going continuing education, experience, and competency in the acute care setting.
|
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
|
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
