Reports To: VP of Finance & Accounting

Location: HQ Office in Bentonville, AR

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000/year

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant will be responsible for the close process for the U.S. financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role includes working with our grants team to provide the necessary financial reporting, and coordinating with in-country finance teams as needed. This person will work alongside the VP of Finance & Accounting to build a control framework while leveraging systems to provide scalable solutions. This position will also assist with the annual audit, budgeting, and other tasks as needed.

Responsibilities & Duties Overview:  

Accounting

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including, but not limited to, cash, accounts payable, fixed assets, and general ledger. 
• Responsible for month-end close, preparing and reviewing financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP, and developing and implementing financial policies and procedures to enhance internal controls. 
• Assist in the development of the annual budget and financial forecasts, monitor budget performance, and provide budget variance analysis. 
• Assist with annual audits, ensuring timely and accurate completion, and maintaining accurate and organized financial records. 
• Collaborate with other employees to achieve goals and meet expected deadlines. 
• Complete other tasks as assigned. 

Grants Finance

• Perform grant accounting activities necessary for the proper recording, accounting, reconciling, reporting, auditing and monitoring of grant funds.  
• Lead and maintain the grant reporting structure, including setting up grant dimensions and the reporting and tracking of grant performance and budgets.  
• Assist the Grant Partnerships team in submitting grant applications, including preparing budgets and answering financial questions. Oversee the financial reporting of interim and final reports as required by grantors.  
• Develop recommendations for financial improvements to align with grantor requirements and best practices and support the implementation with the Finance and Operations team to ensure financial compliance.  

 Work Experience & Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: 

• Passion for Water for Good’s mission of transforming lives through sustainable access to safe water, as well as improved sanitation and hygiene, in places that need it most.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship will be provided 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• CPA certification or equivalent
• Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
• Experience in non-profit accounting and grants management

Physical Qualifications: 

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

Travel Required:  Not required - a trip may be necessary every 1-3 years depending on training or audit needs in program countries.
