NATURE OF WORK

An individual in this class performs skilled repair and maintenance of all technology-related equipment as well as technical support for all technology-related systems. Employee provides technical support to users including, but not limited to, technical advice on equipment setup and operation, general troubleshooting, and software installation. Employee typically works in a centralized microcomputer environment; however, positions may be located in other environments.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

• Primary Help Desk support for PreK-12 district.
• Primary support for technology issues with students, teachers, classrooms, and staff at 9-12 high school.
• Repairs, maintains, and upgrades technology-related equipment by troubleshooting issues affecting the operation of desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, and various video display devices—including digital projectors, wall-mounted panels, and document cameras—while reading and interpreting technical documentation and using standard and specialized electronic testing tools to ensure proper functionality.

• Maintains general knowledge of computers and related technology devices.
• Works comfortably within a Microsoft Windows and Chrome environment regardless of software version. Installs upgrades to hardware and software.
• Maintains a task list of work to be performed and proceeds with work and research on tasks and troubleshooting independently.
• Communicates effectively with users and other Technology staff
• • Uses a work-order tracking system for routine repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Refer complex problems to higher level technical support.
  • Ensure the maintenance (warranty and damage repairs) of all 1 to 1 devices.
• Maintain documentation of warranty/damage repairs within Help Desk tracking system and technical procedures.
• Answer tickets and emails pertaining to users' computer problems in a timely manner.
• Attends classes, webinars, and reviews professional literature to enhance knowledge of trends and developments in educational technology
• • Primary contact for vendor concerns, returns and other issues.
• Performs other related or non related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Basic knowledge of electronic principles and fundamentals of physics as applied in electronics.
• General knowledge of computers and related technology devices.
• General knowledge of electronics devices.
• Familiarity with the operation and uses of standard test equipment.
• Basic knowledge of mathematical principles as applied in electronic circuit analysis.
• Ability to systematically troubleshoot standard electronics devices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all end users.
• Ability to use your work time effectively.

SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a two-year college or technical school with coursework on electronics and computers and one year experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A certification recommended.
