Design Engineer

Job Description:

Develop and implement cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods accordingly with product specifications and quality standards. Coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products. 

• Design, model, and test prototypes for products.
• Conduct research and create design proposals for projects.
• Establish design briefs.
• Create concepts, performance, and production criteria.
• Identify and select materials needed for production.
• Produce final drawings and specifications.
• Create parts lists.
• List costs involved in production.
• Make samples of working models for demonstration.
• Plan marketing initiatives for product.
• Negotiate appropriate production processes.
• Travel to production facilities to evaluate processes.
• Improve usability of an item.
• Use computer-aided design (CAD) to design concepts.

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum of (5) years of progressive work experience in a manufacturing operation involving extensive assembly operations preferred.

B. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Tools. (Green Belt or Black Belt Certification a real plus)
• Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Inventor
• Nastran FEA analysis (or similar) experience
• Proven ability to lead teams and bring results through others
• Machining, Welding, Fabrication or knowledge of truck industry experience a plus
• Must possess technical, problem solving, and analytic skills with ability to think strategically.
• Must be willing to travel up to 25%
• Must be teamwork oriented.
• Must possess an attitude of safety in all aspects of the job
