Position Overview
WASTE SYSTEMS OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC is seeking a results-driven Director of Operations to lead and optimize multi-site waste management operations across collection, transfer, recycling, and disposal services. This executive-level role is responsible for driving operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, safety performance, and profitability across all service lines.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience within waste management, logistics, environmental services, or heavy industrial operations, with a proven ability to scale operations and improve performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations across hauling, transfer stations, recycling facilities, and landfill activities
- Develop and execute operational strategies to improve service delivery, efficiency, and cost control
- Lead regional managers and site supervisors to ensure consistent performance across all locations
Performance & Efficiency
- Analyze KPIs including route efficiency, fuel usage, labor productivity, and equipment utilization
- Implement process improvements to maximize operational output and reduce downtime
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs
Financial Oversight
- Manage operating budgets, forecasting, and cost controls across all divisions
- Identify opportunities to increase margins through operational optimization and vendor management
- Partner with finance leadership to align operational goals with company profitability targets
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Enforce company safety standards and lead initiatives to reduce workplace incidents
- Maintain adherence to DOT, OSHA, and EPA guidelines
Fleet & Asset Management
- Oversee maintenance and lifecycle management of fleet and heavy equipment
- Optimize route planning and dispatch operations to improve service efficiency
- Implement technology solutions for tracking, reporting, and operational visibility
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, and develop high-performing operations teams
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- Provide leadership coaching and succession planning for key operational roles
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred)
- 7–12 years of operations leadership experience (waste management, logistics, or industrial sectors preferred)
- Strong knowledge of fleet operations, routing, and large-scale service delivery
- Proven ability to manage multi-site operations and large teams
- Experience with regulatory compliance in environmental or industrial settings
- Strong analytical, leadership, and decision-making skills
