Helper

Job Summary

Helper(s) support the daily collection of residential, commercial or industrial waste and recyclables by assisting the truck driver. To include but not limited to sorting, guiding, directing materials disposal, cleaning the yard, repairing/painting bins, storing, loading and unloading waste and recyclables, maintaining and repairing bins and other equipment. This role involves physically demanding labor, including lifting, loading, repairing and cleaning tasks. The helper ensures job duties are done efficiently, safely, environmentally and in compliance with company policies and local, state and federal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ride along with driver on designated routes to collect trash, recycling and green waste
• Load waste and recyclables into garbage trucks manually or using mechanical equipment
• Return carts and containers to proper locations after collection
• Assist in guiding the driver when backing up or navigating tight spaces
• Identify and report hazardous or non compliant waste
• Maintain cleanliness around trucks, base yards and work areas
• Follow all safety protocols, including wearing PPE and safe lifting practices
• Keeps base yard(s) clean, organized and safe
• Organize bins in orderly fashion
• May operate pickup truck, forklift, flatbed, mini excavator and other small equiopment/machinery as directed
• Guides and directs community awareness with solid & green waste and recyclables
• Reports and take images of damaged bins, equipment and machinery
• Communicate professionally with customers when necessary
• Report equipment or route issues to supervisor or driver
• Uses two-way radio, iPad tables, small tools & equipment
• Clean Packer and rear door seals (removes all trash)
• Does other related duties as assigned

• Required to exert physical effort in handling heavy objects frequently.
• Requires pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and lifting.
• Normal setting for this job is outdoors and/or riding in a vehicle.
• Will be exposed to a physical environment, which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements most of the workday.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 75 lbs.
• Ability to walk and run alongside a moving truck
• Able to work in varying weather conditions (heat, rain, cold)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
