The Special Project Manager (SPM) position provides key leadership and management of critical WCS initiatives and Services. The position provides some specialized skills and duties in addition to core position requirements and duties.

This position is long-term project management with specialty in project management, engineering, waste management, or special initiatives. Manage and implement partnerships with commercial companies and governmental agencies for the execution of projects focusing on low-level radioactive (LLRW) and mixed low-level waste (MLLW) packaging, transportation, treatment, storage and disposal. Provides Nuclear Site and Remediation Site operational understanding to develop, implement, and management of WCS services. Provide comprehensive project management leadership, supervision, project planning and management. This position is based out of Mobile, AL and travel is required as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Project, D&D, and Waste Management Technical Support (characterization support/overview, waste flow management, packaging plans, etc.)
  • On-Site Project Manager for the USS Enterprise D&D project
  • Large Components Projects Technical Support (transportation, characterization support, etc.).
  • Understands and runs advanced computational analysis and programs
  • Information system tools development or enhancements (Customer experience enhancements)
  • D&D/Project planning support
  • Customer site shipping support
  • Support/initiate waste characterization analysis and studies
  • Support/initiate waste transportation analysis and plans
  • Participates in customer sales calls and meetings
  • Ensures quality and effective communication with customers and all WCS departments
  • Maintains up to date industry understanding
  • Provides high quality technical and management reports
  • Facilitates/performs characterization of low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) and MLLW
  • Performs DOT and NRC waste package evaluations and plans
  • Project and D&D Waste Management Technical Support (characterization support/overview, waste flow management, packaging plans, etc.)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May supervise Waste engineers, waste shippers, or others involved in waste generation, packaging, and transportation.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) or equivalent; more than (10)ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY:
Very High Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, internet software, information systems tools, and inventory software.

  • Demonstrated understanding of proposal pricing, contract terminology, and sales negotiations; working across all levels of an organization (e.g., production, legal, contracts, marketing, HR, accounting etc.); excellent analytical abilities; articulate (written and verbal), some public speaking required; excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet)
  • Full time for long-term Project Management at the Project Site

PHYSICAL
Ability to work in a general office environment, construction site environment and travel as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to work in a general office environment and travel is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level when visiting the worksite is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may receive occupational exposures to ionizing radiation that are As Low As is Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and within regulatory limits. Work is conducted outdoors in hot, cold, windy, rainy, and snowy weather. Occasional exposure to heavy equipment noise.
