As a Non-Union Relief Driver, you’ll operate a garbage truck on assigned routes to safely collect and transport solid waste while performing physically demanding work and delivering excellent customer service.
Pay & Schedule
- Starting Pay Range: $37.00 – $38.50 per hour (based on experience)
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, starting at 5:00 AM and continuing until the route is completed. Averaging approximately 45 hours per week, with occasional overtime and Saturday shifts as needed.
- Operate a garbage truck on local routes to collect solid waste
- Follow route sheets and dispatcher instructions to service customers
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections, checking fluids, tires, and safety equipment
- Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift and load refuse
- Perform physically demanding work, including loading/unloading waste without assistance
- Interact courteously with customers and perform other related duties as assigned
- Requires extensive physical activity, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including frequent wet/humid conditions, fumes, and vibration
- The work environment includes moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels
- Must follow all safety protocols and procedures
- Valid Class A or B CDL with air brake endorsement
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Basic knowledge of truck components for conducting pre- and post-trip inspections
