JOB SUMMARY
The Laborer is responsible for performing general labor tasks to support the production, handling and finishing of prestress concrete products. This includes, but is not limited to, preparing and cleaning forms, setting up molds, moving materials, stressing and de-tensioning strands, assisting equipment operators and maintaining a safe and organized yard environment. The Laborer reports to the Crew Leader.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the setup and stripping of concrete forms and molds for pre-stressed concrete production.
- Clean, oil, and prepare forms for the next pour
- Measure and mark layout lines for accurate placement of strand anchors, ducts, inserts, and lifting devices
- Assist in the placement of steel strands or cables into the form bed according to engineering drawings and tensioning plans
- Secure strands using anchors and tensioning equipment under the direction of the Crew Leader
- Verify strand spacing, tension levels, and proper alignment prior to concrete placement
- Assist in de-tensioning strands after concrete has reached the required strength, following strict safety and procedural controls
- Load and unload materials, tools, and precast elements by hand or using forklifts, pallet jacks or hoists
- Place and tie rebar, inserts or other hardware as directed by supervisors
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, workstations and walkways
- Follow all safety procedures, wear required PPE and report any hazards or unsafe conditions
- Support crane and forklift operators with spotting and material staging
- Perform other duties as assigned to assist production and yard teams
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years in a relevant environment
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools
- Experience working with pre-stressed concrete products (beams, box beams, columns, panels, etc.)
- Time management skills
- Ability to work independently or with a team
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires constant (70-100%) standing, lifting up to 50lbs, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, use hands to finger, hearing (listening) and observing (vision), hand/eye coordination and walking. Requires frequent (40-69%) climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching and occasional (0-39%) sitting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust and focus. This position is subject to onsite hazards including but not limited to moving industrial equipment, hazardous energies (LOTO), climbing ladders, working at heights, working on uneven or unimproved surfaces and areas of high noise levels, may operate hand and power tools (electric, gas & pneumatic) of all types. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc. May be required to work in confined spaces. Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.). Candidate must be able to be medically qualified by a NON-DOT or other job specific physical.
