The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking engineering students for a Summer 2026 internship in the Permits section of our Engineering Department. This team oversees and inspects work within the public road right-of-way, including utility installations, driveway connections, and other permitted activities. As an intern, you'll work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer and gain hands-on experience in field inspections, permit documentation, and construction coordination. - Create formal sight distance drawings based on field data.
- Develop efficient daily travel routes for site visits.
- Interpret data and analytics to support project completion.
- Assist in preparing reports, documentation, and recommendations for permit-related activities.
- Support planning efforts for gutter and shoulder installations.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Valid Michigan driver's license
- Actively pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Reliable attendance, dependable transportation, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and active roadway environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Familiarity with basic engineering principles and permit processes is a plus.
