PURPOSE:
The job of a Secondary CTE Teacher is to facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Must adhere to the Career Education and Technical program standards set by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Career and Technical Education in Washington State. Standards include:
- Provide student leadership opportunities (in and outside of the classroom) for further growth and professional development (CTSO)
- Lead and/or participate in CTE advisory committee meetings
- Attend state-sponsored, required workshops and conferences
- Articulate classes with post-secondary education
- Provide workbased learning opportunities in all CTE classes
- Develop and maintain business partnerships
- Design learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning
- Promote integration of academic skills and specific CTE curriculum for relevant career preparation
- Document/report all required data within given timelines
- Use and update approved course frameworks
- Teach district approved course goals and objectives.
- Evaluations of the individual student and the appropriate reporting of student progress.
- Instruct students in citizenship and subject matter specified by state law and administrative regulations of the school district.
- Provide individual and group instruction so that each student can achieve scholastic educational objectives.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process in conformance with the approved district guidelines.
- Develop and use instructional materials suitable for the instruction of students with wide ranges of mental, physical, social and emotional maturation.
- Establish and maintain a standard of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities.
- Evaluate intellectual and social growth of students and keep appropriate records.
- Communicate with parents and conduct parent conferences when needed to discuss student's progress.
- Maintain records and submit reports as required or appropriate.
- Participate in curricular and other developmental programs as required.
- Participate in faculty meetings, school committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Facilitate Advisory Committee meetings and keep accurate/appropriate records of agendas/minutes.
- Create an effective and interactive classroom environment.
- Subscribe to the notion "student success is a teacher's paramount responsibility".
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Assists other personnel for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: controlling and motivating students; maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent and using pertinent software applications (Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, Skyward, etc); adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: knowledge of state and federal laws that govern school districts, age appropriate activities, stages of child development, and safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work independently or with others in a wide variety of circumstances; to work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and to operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; to work with similar types of data; and to utilize specific, job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: must be trained in advanced placement art; fostering positive relationships; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience:
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience with high school students.
- Demonstrated experience in the field(s) of Business, Marketing and Computer Technology
- Demonstrated experience as an Advisor for FBLA or equivalent CTSO.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or Work Experience per RCW
Certificated & License Requirements
- Must hold a Washington State Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching certification in the area Business & Marketing Education (V078000)
- Valid First Aid Certificate
