FLEET MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II
Summary Description
The Fleet Maintenance Technician II assists with low to intermediate level maintenance and repairs on the District's Yellow and White fleets, which include but is not limited to: school buses, motor vehicles, and support equipment. The Technician II is responsible for assisting with lower to intermediate level diagnostics and performing general fleet repairs. The Technician II assists the Fleet Maintenance Technician III with major repairs, using the technician's own toolbox and intermediate selection of hand, air, power, and diagnostic tools.
The Technician II is the entry level position within the Fleet Maintenance position series.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of formal vehicle repair training from an accredited college, vocational or trade school required.
Experience: One (1) year of intermediate experience in diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and preventative maintenance across motor vehicles, school buses and support equipment required. Intermediate knowledge in electronic fleet diagnostics and repair utilizing manufacture software, scanners, and laptops as related to Cummins, CAT, Mercedes, Allison, Bendix, Webasto, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, Blue Bird, International, Hino, and Thomas.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Utilizes hand and specialized tools to perform assisted troubleshooting and repairs of the district's Yellow and White fleets, including but not limited to: school buses, sedans, trucks, and support equipment.
- Assists with operating diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot fleet electronic fuel, starting, charging, engine, transmission, braking, solar, lighting, cooling, and related systems.
- Assists with rebuilding and replacing fleet powertrains to include but not limited to: gasoline, propane, diesel, and electric.
- Assists with diagnosing and repairing computer-controlled emission and after-treatment systems.
- Assists with diagnosing and repairing fleet braking systems to include but not limited to: air, hydraulic and anti-lock.
- Assists with diagnosing and repairing axillary systems to include but not limited to: GPS, onboard camera, preheater, fire suppression, two-way radio, air conditioning, air suspension, lift gates, and wheelchair lifts.
- Assists with diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems (i.e, rams, pumps, motors, booms, etc.)
- Assists with repairing fleet windows, doors, hatches, seats, flooring, paneling to include minor body work.
- Assists with performing non-certified welding and fabrication of parts as required.
- Assists with performing county vehicle emissions tests as required.
- Operates vehicles to assist in Department of Public Safety annual inspections.
- Performs assisted roadside fleet repairs as required.
- Assists with road testing fleet vehicles and support equipment as required.
- Attends continuing education training while sharing knowledge with fellow Technicians.
- Responsible for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Conforms to safety standards as prescribed.
- May perform other duties as assigned.

- Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Nevada State Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with a driving record acceptable to the district required.
- Ability to obtain ASE G1, S1-S7, EPA Section 609, and OSHA forklift certifications within 24 months from official start date required.

- Intermediate mechanical concepts in light and heavy-duty motor vehicles and support equipment.
- Intermediate prescribed techniques of diagnosing and repairing different types of vehicles and support equipment including alternative fuel powered motor vehicles.
- Performing assisted intermediate l vehicle, school bus, and support equipment preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Interpreting repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic software.
- Interpreting verbal and written communications.
- Working with hazardous materials including solvents, detergents, adhesives and other chemicals.
- Work under general supervision with periods of independence.
- Interpret, learn and apply maintenance related procedures and techniques.
- Establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
