Location Requirements and Preferences: This role is required to reside in Washington State. We are prioritizing applications from the following geographies, although all are welcome to apply: Central Washington, North Central Washington, and the Olympic Peninsula. Please note this role will require frequent travel across the state.

Washington Youth Alliance Overview:

We are Washington’s only truly youth-led 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and State PAC that builds authentic statewide youth power by transforming young people's stories and lived experiences into action, creating youth-led chapters that educate, advocate, and organize for mental health support, gun violence prevention, access to a healthier democracy, and other systemic changes young people need.

We envision a world where Washington is designed to serve the needs of and address problems specific to young people, and where young people are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to shape systems so it continues to address issues that impact young people.

What do we define as youth-led?

We define youth-led as having young people ages 13-24, but particularly those not in College, at the center of everything we are doing and hope to do. Our boards are 85% under the age of 24 with 33.3% being under the age of 18 and from local chapters.

Position Overview:

The Organizing Coordinator will oversee all parts of our organizing plan and issue based goals. They will work with young people across our 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and State PAC designations to build a base of hundreds in the next year to mobilize against oligarchy and authoritarianism, and to work toward progress on gun violence prevention, youth mental health, and a healthier democracy that young people can participate in.

Position Responsibilities:

Organizing and Base Building:

  • Work under the direction of the Executive Director to refine and implement the Organizing Plan to recruit and mobilize hundreds/thousands of young people statewide
  • Connect organizing to every part of our organization including legislative advocacy, youth leadership development, and youth advisory councils
  • Provide organizing coaching to youth leaders
  • Oversee the inaugural cohort of the youth coordinator program

Electoral Campaigns:

  • Implement field strategies to support ballot initiatives that lower the voting age in local elections
  • Launch our endorsement process, with specific input from our base and young people from the communities we endorse in—implement via the endorsement input strategy given to you

  • Legislative Work:

    • Assist our contract lobbyist in mobilizing young people for the 2026 legislative session
    • Assist our Executive Assistant and Executive Director in planning our Youth Lobby Day in 2026 and 2027.
    • Assist our contract lobbyist in researching policy for the 2027 legislative session.

Measuring and Evaluating for the Future:

    • Build and maintain trusting relationships with our partners, youth, and funders
    • Assist the Program Director with grant and financial reporting requirements as needed
    • Assist in the development and execution of progress rubrics for our internal program evaluation

Please note that this is meant to be a sample of position responsibilities and is not fully encompassing. Washington Youth Alliance reserves the right to modify these responsibilities at any time.

Position Requirements: No specific degree is required. In general, candidates will:

    1. Have at least 1-2 years of organizing experience and work well with a team
    2. Have experience working with young people (preferred high schoolers)
