Washington Water Service Job Description: The Sampling Specialist is responsible for performing water sampling; recording and maintaining all records related to water quality sampling. The position is located in Gig Harbor, Washington. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs water sampling per DOH regulations, EPA, and Federal Safe Drinking Water Act; record and maintain all records related to water quality sampling. Prepares and organizes water sample bottles, containers, and related tracking documents; collect water samples from wells, distribution systems, and water treatment facilities. Delivers water samples to the laboratory for analysis; ensure the required documentation for each sample is complete and correct; monitor sampling schedules daily to ensure the timely completion of sampling. Inspects sample sites and perform repairs or upgrades as needed. Flush distribution systems and maintain system flushing records; respond to inquiries from customers related to water quality. Supports the relationship between Washington Water Company and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors, the public and city staff; maintains confidentiality or work related issues and company information. Operates and maintains chlorine pumps. Handles hazardous materials. Monitors and records chlorine residuals throughout the distribution systems. Monitors and records overall operation and security of well sites. Operates motor vehicles. Performs work on-site in the assigned office location Performs other duties as required or assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Available to work after hours and on-call when scheduled. Excellent written and verbal skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications. Valid Washington State driver’s license. Obtain Water Distribution System certification within 1 year of hire date. Obtain Flagger certification within 1 year of hire date. Obtain First Aid certification within 1 year of hire date. Cross Connection Certification (CCS) within 1 year of hire date.
