Job Summary:

The advanced practice provider (APP) will be employed by the Department of Anesthesiology within WashU Medicine, a top ranked medical school in the country. The APP will work at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a nationally recognized Magnet center and ranked among the nation’s best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, and/or affiliated BJC community hospitals, and telemedicine.

Opportunities include cardiothoracic ICU, surgical/burn/trauma ICU, combined medical/surgical ICUs, and telemedicine. ICU work locations will be determined based on the applicant's experience and professional interests.

Will practice as an independent provider in collaboration with a fellowship trained intensivist within diverse, skilled, inter-professional critical care teams. The environment is challenging and rewarding and allows the APP the opportunity to practice to the fullest extent of their scope of practice.

The APP (Critical Care) provides advanced care to critically ill patients usually in an ICU or Emergency Department or an intensive surgical area required strong procedural skills, critical thinking and the ability to manage high acuity patients independently under the collaboration with an intensivist. Requirements for this role include a master’s or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care certification) or Physician Assistant with concentrated critical care experience or knowledge. Oversees the plan of care ordering tests, medications and treatments for complex conditions.

Position Details:

• Full-time (average 40hrs per week).
• (3) 12-13 hours shifts per week on average, consisting of up to 50% nights, weekends, holidays, and paid call.
• Flexible scheduling options may be available, including weekend and/or night shift only options with additional incentives.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Obtaining medical histories
• Performing physical examinations
• Participating in inter-professional rounds
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests
• Designing and implementing plans of care
• Performing invasive procedures.
• Typical provider-to-patient ratio 1:6.

Qualifications

Required

Education:

• M.S.N. – Master of Science in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner
• M.S. – Master of Science – Physician Assistant Studies

Certifications:

• Current APP licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois or ability to obtain within 3 months of date of hire
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
• ACNP – Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Preferred

Experience

• Critical Care - 1 year
• Devices commonly utilized in cardiothoracic surgery population (CTICU populations)
