The Opportunity:
As a Utility Worker 1 for the Washington State University (WSU) Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (IAREC) in Prosser, WA, you provide essential support for facilities maintenance, custodial services, and grounds upkeep. Responsibilities include performing minor repairs, event setup, space preparation, and routine custodial tasks across multiple buildings. The role also involves operating vehicles and equipment for deliveries, assisting with inventory and surplus management, and ensuring facility security through daily lock-up procedures. Additional duties include supporting grounds maintenance, seasonal snow removal, and providing labor for farm operations during peak periods.

This is a full (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Required Qualifications:
- Six months of manual labor experience OR equivalent education/experience.
- 1 year of work experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial, construction work or other relevant field.
- Ability to use power tools, hand tools, heavy equipment and machinery.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification within 4-months of employment.
- Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance withSPPM 7.10and departmental driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience at a research facility or similar facility.
- Experience in safety protocols.
- Experience with heavy equipment operation.
