We’re excited to launch the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s Internship Program and are looking for motivated college students and recent graduates who are interested in finance, accounting, risk management, insurance, or government work to join our Company Supervision Division’s Financial Analysis team.
As an Administrative Intern I, you’ll support our team of financial analysts who monitor the financial health of insurance companies operating in Washington State. This is a great opportunity to learn how financial regulation works in a real-world setting.
This internship will focus primarily on entities licensed to issue charitable gift annuities (CGAs). You’ll help the team by reviewing and organizing financial filings and regulatory documents submitted by licensed CGA entities programs, and by assisting with tracking whether those filings meet state requirements.

This is a Washington General Service position. The hourly range for this position is $19.64 - $23.67.

The duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Under direct supervision, you will support a variety of administrative, research, and project-based functions within the division. Responsibilities may include:
- Provide general administrative support, including scheduling, document preparation, records management, data entry, and responding to emails or phone inquiries
- Conduct research on insurance laws, regulations, and industry trends; compile and analyze information to support agency work
- Assist with drafting reports, summaries, and other written materials related to policy and regulatory topics
- Support regulatory processes by reviewing filings and helping ensure compliance with state laws and regulations
- Contribute to project work by collaborating with team members, meeting deadlines, and completing assigned tasks
- Assist with customer service by responding to public inquiries and helping explain insurance-related information and consumer rights
- Participate in meetings by taking notes and supporting coordination of events, workshops, or team activities
- Help prepare presentations, maintain organized files, and support overall office operations
- Collaborate with staff across teams to support initiatives that strengthen consumer protection and insurance regulation
- Perform other duties as assigned to support division priorities and operational needs
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age at the time of hire
- Completion of at least four semesters or six quarters work (or equivalent) at an accredited* college or university
- Recent college graduate (within 6 months of graduation) majoring in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science or a related field
- Knowledge of proper grammatical constructions and sentence/ paragraph development
- Knowledge of basic mathematics
- Demonstrated ability to follow directions, comprehend directives and regulations, conduct research and compile meaningful written reports
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
- Coursework in Basic Accounting (required), with preferred exposure to GAAP accounting, nonprofit accounting, and/or taxation concepts
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting (preferred); Business, Finance, or Economics also considered
- Strong ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize competing assignments
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated personal accountability and reliability
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a professional, fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
