What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Data & Analytics position at Washington State Employees Credit Union?

As a member of WSECU's leadership team, the Vice President of Data & Analytics oversees our data and analytics strategies and practices, supporting and collaborating with peers and senior leadership. This key role serves as a thought leader and trusted advisor to other leaders across the organization.
As the VP of Data & Analytics, your day might include:
Collaborative and Influential Leadership
- Fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the team.
- Serving as a coach, mentor, and leader for the team to work within and through the organization successfully, recognizing success, providing development and growth opportunities, and holding team members accountable for outcomes.
- Promoting proactive, transparent communication to leaders and staff.
- Managing vendor relationships, negotiating favorable terms, defining requirements and meeting performance standards.
- Exhibiting behaviors that promote trust, team cohesion and collaboration across all lines of business, demonstrating a pro-active approach to problem solving and conflict resolution.
Strategic Leadership
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive data analytics strategy aligned with the credit union's objectives.
- Collaborating with senior leadership and department heads to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements in member services, risk management, and operational efficiency.
Data Engineering Oversight
- Providing leadership and direction to the data engineering team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the credit union's analytic data infrastructure.
- Ensuring the data engineering function aligns with the organization's data analytics goals and supports data availability, reliability, and performance.
Data Analysis Coordination
- Indirectly coordinate and support data analysts embedded within business lines.
- Ensuring that data analysis efforts are coordinated and aligned with the credit union's overall analytics strategy.
Reporting and Insights
- Working with department heads to create and maintain a robust reporting framework that delivers timely and accurate reports to support decision-making processes.
- Facilitating the development of department-specific dashboards and visualizations to communicate data insights effectively.
Predictive Modeling and Best Practices
- Promoting best practices in data analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning techniques across the organization.
- Supporting a team of analysts in developing predictive models and improving forecasting accuracy, and create consistency in reporting across line-of-business analysts.
Data Governance and Compliance
- Collaborating with department analysts to ensure data governance policies and data quality standards are maintained.
- Staying up-to-date with relevant industry regulations and compliance requirements, providing guidance and support as needed.
What you bring to the team:
- Seven (7) or more years of proven experience in data analytics, preferably within the financial services industry
- Eight (8) to twelve (12) total leadership experience managing direct reports and building teams and data analytics strategy.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics or a related field, with a master's degree preferred. Experience may substitute, year for year, for education.
- Strong interpersonal skills, proven diplomacy in gaining organizational support with thought leaders across the organization.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Familiarity with predictive modeling and machine learning techniques.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience presenting to C-suite executives to summarize results and recommend decisions.
- Curious and open-minded leader with proven track record for driving multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to influence leadership through the use of data and the introduction of new ideas.
- Experience managing budgets and building business cases for consideration.
- Passion and curiosity about creating value for members.
- Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and data privacy regulations.
Competitive Base Pay of: $157,343.19 - $262,238.65 annually, dependent on relevant qualifications, plus an annual discretionary incentive plan and benefits package
- The range above allows our employees room for growth through annual merit and other pay increase during their tenure in the position.
- The target range for qualified new hires is typically within the first half of the range. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant's pay history into account.
Where we're located: 330 Union Ave, Olympia WA. Employee must reside and perform all work in the state of Washington. This is a hybrid position that blends working in-office and from home. Works onsite in Olympia Headquarters at least 2 occasions per week, Wednesdays and either Tuesdays or Thursdays.
When you'd work: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, full time minimum 40 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility to meet service needs for this Exempt position
