Description

At Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility in beautiful Burien, Washington, our team works to serve youth ages 13 to 17 who have co-occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities. Facility staff work alongside youth, empowering them to learn self-care skills so that they can thrive.

King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

As an Occupational Therapist 3, you will be involved in coordinating facility activities and programs. You will conduct workplace consultations to assist the facility in preventing musculoskeletal injuries or adjusting job roles for safer and more comfortable work environments. You will work under general supervision, administering occupational therapy services, and function as the sole professional occupational therapist.

The facility has 12 beds and 108 full-time employees with potential growth to 24 beds and 196 full-time employees. The property was designed with children and youth in mind and features accessible spaces for onsite educational services and therapies, as well as access to outdoor space. The voluntary facility will initially serve 12 youths. This new therapeutic facility has a focus to help youth, age 13 and older, with co-occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities who have complex needs such as mental illness or substance use disorder.

Some Of What You’ll Do

  • Assess and provide treatment to patients in groups or 1:1s as needed in a recovery center or ward
  • Provide evaluations and therapy in the areas and activities of daily living within designated caseload.
  • Report evaluation and therapy results to the interdisciplinary team and develop appropriate habilitation plans as indicated in the Care Plan (CP) or Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP) for each client.
  • Assess, design, fabricate or order adaptive equipment/mechanical supports such as splints and hearing aids.
  • Assesses occupational therapy needs of youth at admission and as needed thereafter,
  • Collaborate with patients and work with an interdisciplinary team to discuss treatment goals and implementation.
  • Develop, plan, and prepare comprehensive active treatment groups and individual treatment strategies for patient caseload using OT evidence-based practice
  • Document patient progress on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Supervise occupational therapy assistant(s), intern(s), and/or student(s)
  • Write evaluations/consultations, progress notes, home programs, and discharge summaries.
  • Attend and participate in on-site clinical appointments as needed.
  • Consult with medical providers, nurses, physical therapists, speech pathologists, mini team members recreation specialists, adult training program staff, and other facility staff.

Who should apply: Professionals with

  • A State of Washington Occupational Therapist license or a valid probational certificate issued by the State of Washington to practice occupational therapy.
  • Successful completion of the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) examination

AND

  • Three years of professional Occupational Therapy experience.

  • Experience working with patients with behavioral and physical health diagnoses
  • Capable to handle stressful situations
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Comprehend, educate others, and grade treatments according to the patient's strengths and challenges
  • Knowledge of various treatment types and modalities using evidence-based practice.
