Washington Montessori School is seeking a motivated high school or college student with an interest in plant science, horticulture, or environmental stewardship to support garden maintenance and landscape enhancement projects on campus this summer. This is a hands-on learning opportunity ideal for students with an interest in gardening who want practical experience working with ornamental and pollinator plantings.
The intern will work under the guidance of school staff, gaining exposure to plant care techniques, garden design concepts, and sustainable landscape practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine garden maintenance, including:
- Weeding garden beds and landscaped areas
- Watering plants and monitoring soil moisture
- Pruning shrubs and perennials as directed
- Assist with installation and care of new plantings
- Support basic garden upkeep tasks such as mulching, edging, and debris removal
- Help monitor plant health and identify basic issues (e.g., pests, drought stress)
- Maintain tools and work areas in a clean, safe condition
- Complete other tasks to enhance and maintenance the school’s outdoor environment, as assigned
