ORDER OF PREFERENCE: The selection for Maintenance and Construction is made on the basis of fitness and ability with preference given to: Maintenance and Construction District, System-Wide (L689), Authority-Wide and external candidates, respectively.

- In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority¿s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
Job Summary:
The Bus Cleaner performs routine manual work providing interior and exterior cleaning and servicing of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)¿s vehicles. The incumbent becomes familiar with the various types of shop/yard vehicles and follows established safety procedures while performing general duties as a Cleaner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepares and cleans interiors and exteriors on all WMATA vehicles, manually and/or with machine type devices, automatic washing equipment, and various chemical cleaning products, removing debris on vehicles, to ensure cleanliness of Authority fleet.
- Removes graffiti from interior and exterior surfaces manually and/or with machine type devices and chemical cleaning products.
- Inspects vehicles for personal property left by passengers, releasing them to proper authority to ensure fleet is safe and clear of hazardous materials.
- Assists in maintaining cleanliness of work area and WMATA facilities which may include trash removal and heavy physical labor.
- Performs servicing duties on all Authority vehicles, including buses, and completes appropriate records of fuel delivery, to ensure vehicles are safe and reliable for operation and activities are documented.
- Completes appropriate records of completed and pending cleaning assignments, to ensure activities are documented and meet mandated requirements.
