Position Summary:
The Chief Copy Editor will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Washington Examiner's digital platforms. This position will oversee the web production and copy editing team, managing schedules, editing content, and working closely with senior editorial management and the technology team.
Responsibilities:
Team Management:
- Manage the web production and copy editing team, including scheduling of shifts and vacations.
- Oversee the training and development of team members.
Content Management:
- Manage, edit, and publish newsletters
- Send emails, browser, and push alerts.
- Edit content for the Washington Examiner magazine, including the letter from the editor.
- Ensure adherence to AP Style and the Washington Examiner's style book.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior management on initiatives and style.
- Collaborate with the technology team on changes to the content management system.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in copy editing, web production or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of AP Style.
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Experience with content management systems.
