About The Opportunity
The Department of Juvenile Services is actively recruiting for a Juvenile Counselor I to join our team!
The current opening is in Custody Services, a round-the-clock operation (24/7) within the Washington County Juvenile Department. Custody Services staff make critical decisions regarding the custody of youth who have been referred for new law violations, probation violations and/or violations of conditions of release as ordered by the Juvenile Court. We are responsible for transportation of youth to and from the Marion County Juvenile Detention Facility located in Salem Oregon. This includes conducting secure transports of youth to and from other secure facilities throughout the state as well as conducting interstate compact transports from other states. Our staff provides security for the Juvenile Courtrooms and works with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Court unit on high-risk cases. We are also responsible for crisis and emergency interventions that occur within all locations of the Juvenile Department.
The role works an overnight shift and includes weekend work. Overnight shifts work the hours of:

- Thursday 9:00pm-5:00am (8 hrs) Friday 11:00pm-7:00am (8 hrs) Saturday 9:00pm-9:00am (12 hrs) Sunday 9:00pm-9:00am (12 hrs)

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or field applicable to the practice of juvenile justice; AND completion of a one-year practicum OR one (1) year of supervised work experience in the counseling of juveniles and families; OR
- Associate's degree in criminal justice, counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or field applicable to the practice of juvenile justice; AND three (3) years of supervised work experience in the counseling of juveniles and families; OR
- Five (5) years of supervised work experience in the counseling of juveniles and families.
- Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
- Must pass an extensive background check.
- Must be CPR Certified within 6 months of hire.
- Some positions may require the ability to lift, push, pull, move up to 35 lbs.
