Key Responsibilities
As a Correctional Officer, your duties throughout your 12-hour shift will focus on safety, documentation, and professional communication:
- Security & Surveillance: Conduct regular patrols of the facility grounds, monitor CCTV networks, control access points, and rapidly respond to alarms or emergencies.
- Incident Management: Utilize proven conflict management and de-escalation techniques to diffuse tense situations and maintain a peaceful environment.
- Daily Supervision: Oversee and manage the scheduled daily activities of inmates, including meals, recreation, work assignments, and transport.
- Policy and Law Enforcement: Maintain order by enforcing strict facility rules regarding contraband, search-and-seizure protocols, and accountability.
- Reporting & Documentation: Write clear, accurate, and comprehensive incident reports detailing any violations or notable events during your shift.
- First Response & Care: Interact with inmates professionally and respectfully. Act as a first responder by providing basic First Aid and CPR when necessary.
Position Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written English communication skills (critical for accurate report writing and radio transmission).
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a structured, command-driven environment and follow strict protocols from supervisors.
- Physical Readiness: Must be physically fit and capable of standing, walking, and remaining alert throughout a 12-hour shift, as well as responding physically to security situations.
- Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in First Aid, CPR, and facility-specific defensive tactics (training provided).
- Background: A background in security, law enforcement, military service, or behavioral health is a plus, but not required - we provide in house training.
