Assistant Director of Therapeutic Education/After School Services

Washington County Mental Health Services (WCMHS) is seeking an experienced special educator to lead educational services across our therapeutic educational programs: ChOICE Academy, STARS school at ChOICE Academy, and Beckley Day Program. This position serves as the educational administrator, holding primary responsibility for Agency of Education compliance and oversight of the Agency's approved independent school while providing strategic leadership for educational and special education programming.
Working closely with the Director, program coordinators, clinicians, families school districts, and community partners, the Assistant Director is a collaborator helping to integrate high-quality educational and therapeutic services across our school and programs. This is an opportunity to serve Vermont's Capitol region by strengthening educational outcomes and continuity of services for youth and families throughout the community.

The starting pay range for this position is $73,320 to $76,250.

Summary of Duties

Assist the Director by managing daily educational operations and ensuring Vermont AOE compliance
Develop and oversee educational systems, policies, and procedures supporting quality programming and regulatory compliance (including IDEA, Section 504, and FERPA)
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Tutorial and Educational Coordinator and School and Tutorial Special Education Coordinator
Collaborate with program coordinators, school districts, families, and community partners to integrate services and support educational transitions
Assist with strategic planning, budgeting, grant management, hiring, and staff performance management
Prepare educational reports and data for leadership, and represent the department on committees and at conferences
Summary of Qualifications and Skills
Current Vermont Special Educator License required
Master's in Special Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related
Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in special education, therapeutic education, or educational education, including supervisory and AOE compliance experience
Demonstrated strong analytical, communication, and reasoning skills
Proficiency with software tools such as MS Office, Google Workspace, EMR, and LMS
Valid driver's license and access to a registered, inspected, and sufficiently insured vehicle during work hours
Ability to deliver services and maintain records in English
Workplace Conditions
Work occurs in educational, office, and community settings. Frequent standing, walking, talking, and hearing. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Exposure to moderate sound levels and possibility of having to restrain students.
