Description:
Research Assistants/Bird Banders will be responsible for supporting the operation of the Foremans Branch Bird Observatory (FBBO). As part of the staff team, banders will extract birds from mist nets, safely collect morphometric measurements, interact with visitors and interns, and assist with other aspects of running the station as needed.
Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. in biology, environmental studies or sciences, or a related field
- Proficient in the extraction of birds from mist nets and traps
- Must have extracted at least 1,000 birds from mist nets
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in inclement weather
- Strong work ethic, communication skills, and the ability to work independently
- Prior experience in field research, monitoring, and/or data collection
- Ability to identify, age, and sex passerines of the eastern North America
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
Preferred Qualifications:
North American Banding Council certification at the bander level
At least one seasons experience of high volume migration banding
