Washington Beef is looking for a Wastewater Operator or an Apprentice that is willing to learn the wastewater systems and progress to an operator position.

TITLE: Wastewater Operator

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Wastewater Operator will perform advanced and specialized process control, operations, minor maintenance, upkeep/cleaning, and other duties with the water/wastewater department to control the different treatment processes to maintain regulatory and NPDES permit requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work is performed under odorous, hot, humid, dirty, and moderately noisy conditions at the different areas of the wastewater treatment facility. Duties can/will be performed both indoor and outdoor in all types of weather conditions. Risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals, electrical components, wastewater and biosolids fumes and other wastewater related substances.
• Work requires substantial manual dexterity, hearing, and visual acuity, as well as the ability to frequently walk, stand, and climb stairs and ladders. Work requires climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, and occasionally crawling while working. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted while climbing stairs.
• Work requires scheduled shift work that provides seven-day per week coverage. The successful candidate must be willing to work rotating shifts, including swing, weekends, and limited holidays.
• Duties depend on shift rotation and include checking equipment, troubleshooting, collecting samples, performing laboratory tests, maintaining, and understanding logs and records, and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong math and science background
• Good oral and written communication skills in English
• Experience and familiarity with computers, printers, and software such as Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License and a good driving record

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

• Must be able to obtain and maintain Washington State certification as a Group I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator within one (1) year of date of hire
• If currently certified, must be able to maintain certification and provide copy of current validation card
• Must be able obtain and maintain Washington State Department of Health Water Works Water Distribution Manager 1 certification within 18 months of date of hire
• High school diploma or GED required

WAGE RANGE: $21.50 - $25.78 per hour

BENEFITS: Competitive benefit package offered for employees (and qualified dependents) working 30 hours per week includes medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, 401k, PTO accrual up to 15 days per year, six (6) paid holidays annually, and three (3) floating holidays.
