What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Attorney position at Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys?
The Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys has an opening for a full-time staff attorney in Olympia, WA. The salary is $150,000 – 190,000, depending on experience. WAPA also provides a comprehensive benefits package including vacation, holiday and sick leaven as well as medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, and 401K. Under limited supervision from the Executive Director, the staff attorney provides guidance on a wide variety of topics, performs legal research, prepares opinions related to various legal issues, and assists WAPA in carrying out statewide training.
This position will help oversee WAPA’s trial skills programs, and as such the applicant should have a solid history of trial work. The position will also assist WAPA staff to propose and develop other training courses which promote ethical practices within Washington.
The position may assist with legislative policy work by researching, drafting, or analyzing legislative proposals as directed by the Executive Director. The applicant would be expected to work with various WAPA Committees and may represent WAPA in recruitment and retention efforts, on statewide task forces, or other committees as directed by the Executive Director.
The staff attorney promotes a service-oriented culture and delivers quality programs and services to county prosecutor offices statewide with advice, analysis, drafting and review of documents. This position is ideal for someone who works well in a team environment, but who is also self-motivated to lead on a myriad of projects.
Minimum qualifications: Admitted to practice law in the State of Washington; graduate from an accredited law school; minimum of seven years practice as an attorney, preferably in a prosecutor’s office or a related field. Valid WA State driver’s license. Extensive experience in one or more of the following is also preferred: criminal trial practice, advising county officials, and/or appellate practice.
