CLASSIFICATION:
- #15A - 60 credits in education or related field - $27.08/hour
- #14A - 60 credits in any field RIDE approved Teacher Assistant Training Program - $22.77/hour
- #12B - RIDE approved Teacher Assistant Training Program Parapro Assessment - $20.49/hour
SHIFT: Days - (7:30 to 3:00) 35 hours/wk. - 36 wks./yr.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Teacher Assistant will assist the classroom teacher in the supervision of students and perform other duties as prescribed by the classroom teacher and/or department head.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Prepare, distribute and display materials as directed by the teacher.
- Meet the bus and assists children into the classroom.
- At the direction of the teacher, the assistant will assist in maintaining order during instruction period.
- Take children to lavatory and assist with toileting needs as necessary and with other functional self care activities(dressing, feeding, etc.) .
- Escort children to and from various rooms as necessary and assist in those activities where necessary. 6. Maintain records as required by the teacher.
- Assist at games, walks, exercises, etc.
- Perform other activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Responds to student needs as necessary as directed by the teacher.
- Other related duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ability to make accurate tabulations and computations; the ability to readily understand and carry out directions, both oral and written; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form; the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; the ability to develop an effective working relationship with staff, students, parents and the community; creative thinking, problem solving skills and the ability to reinforce information one on one and to small groups; must have an understanding of child development, specifically in the area of special services and the ability to perform duties with an awareness of school department requirements and policies.
EDUCATION:
Such as may be gained through graduation from a senior high school or equivalent (GED). 60 credits in education or related field(15), 60 credits in any field RIDE approved TA Training Program (14), or RIDE approved TA Training Program Parapro Assessment(12). Salaries as described above.
