POSITION: Purchasing Technician
SHIFT: Days- (7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) - 40 Hours - 52 Weeks
SALARY: *Salary listed is union step compensation. Outside applicants start at Step 1

POSITION SUMMARY:
To perform general clerical, telephone communication, typing, computer functions, and other related duties. Responsible for coordinating purchasing training for the schools, reviewing all requisitions and direct payments, and generating purchase orders for the district.
REPORTS TO: Business and Procurement Manager
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Collaborate with staff and schools throughout the district to process purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and direct payments in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws.
- Telephone communication as required by the supervisor.
- Maintenance of files and records as required.
- Communication with staff and the public as required.
- Assist with procurement activities, including bid openings, School Committee materials, records retention and management, pricing research, and contract administration.
- Maintain vendor records and purchasing documentation, including vendor setup, compliance records, and year end 1099 processing.
- Utilize district software systems, including the ERP system, Google Workspace, and Adobe Acrobat. (Alio, Alio Intelligence, MUNIS and Google Suites)
- Maintain all guides and ensure bid justifications are following State Purchasing Laws.
- Manage district purchasing platforms, business accounts, and surplus property initiatives.
- Research purchasing cooperatives and ensure applicable discounts are being applied.
- Understand State Purchasing Laws and the Uniform Chart of Accounts in order to advise purchasers while following its guidance.
- Provide purchasing support and guidance to district staff, including training on purchasing procedures and systems.
- Other related duties as required by the department and/or supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Digital literacy and experience in computers required
- The ability to make accurate tabulations and computations;
- The ability to readily understand and carry out directions, both oral and written; a reasonable speed and accuracy in keyboarding; meet or exceed minimum standards set in regards to applicant testing;
- Should be familiar with office equipment to include, but not limited to computer, calculator, telephone, and photocopier;
- The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; must be able to handle confidential data and material with utmost discretion;
- Experience in computers and the ability to perform duties with an awareness of all school department requirements and policies.
- Ability to train and support Alio/MUNIS users throughout the district.
- Ability to present information to large groups of individuals.
EDUCATION:
Such as may be gained through graduation from a senior high school or equivalent (GED), including or supplemented by courses in keyboarding and computer software application training. Business or technical school graduates preferred. One year of business experience is required.
