Warwick Community School Before Bell Instructor

The Before Bell Instructor position involves supervising and engaging children in a safe, structured environment before the start of the regular school day. Before Bell hours are 7:45 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. each day; students will arrive in a staggered timeframe, with either parent drop-offs and/or intermittent bus drop-offs. Instructor responsibilities include: recording attendance, leading educational activities, ensuring safety, fostering positive social interactions among children, organizing supplies and equipment, and implementing and documenting student safety and support strategies as determined by the administration. The role requires deliberate and caring communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The Before Bell Instructor will also assist in the breakfast program and meal pattern counting.The Before Bell Instructor reports to the principal, Stephen Stroud.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervision and Safety: Proactively ensuring students’ safety, by building relationships, clearly articulating expectations, holding students accountable for school-appropriate behavior, maintaining a secure environment, and implementing/documenting student safety and support plans as needed. The location of the before school program is based in the cafeteria, but the gym and outdoor campus are also available for use during this time.
• Activity Implementation: Leading and participating in age-appropriate activities, such as educational games, arts and crafts.
• Positive Interactions: Fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging teamwork and respectful behavior among children.
• Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate attendance records and other necessary documentation.
• Communication: Effectively communicating with children, parents, and other staff members and the leadership team.
• Problem Solving: Addressing and resolving conflicts or behavioral issues in alignment with the Warwick Community School and District Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Values and Expectations..
• Program Support: Assisting with the setup and breakdown of the program space, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
• Professional Learning: Like all members of WCS/WSD, the Before School Teacher is part of our learning organization and will be asked to learn through feedback and professional development throughout the year.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience:
• Prior experience working with children in an educational group setting.
• Education:A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Interpersonal Skills:Ability to build rapport with children, parents,s and staff. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Organizational Skills:Ability to maintain records, organize activities, and manage time effectively.
• Problem-Solving Skills:Ability to assess situations, identify potential problems, and implement solutions.
• Physical Requirements:Physical ability to supervise children indoors and outdoors on uneven terrain. Capacity to lift small children in case of emergency.
• Positive Attitude:A positive and enthusiastic attitude as well as a love for children and learning; creating a welcoming and engaging environment for children of all ages and abilities.

Pay rate: $20/hr
