General Summary:
The Orchestra Director provides leadership, instruction, and vision for the district’s 6–12 orchestral music program at Lakeview Middle School, Edgewood Middle School, and Warsaw Community High School. The director is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of orchestral music instruction and performance opportunities across Lakeview Middle School, Edgewood Middle School, and Warsaw Community High School. Through classroom instruction, ensemble rehearsals, performances, and co-curricular opportunities, the director develops student musicianship, artistic excellence, and lifelong appreciation for music while supporting district and departmental goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
Teach and direct all assigned orchestra classes and ensembles, including beginning, intermediate, and advanced orchestral programs across grades 6–12.
Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive orchestra curriculum and instructional program aligned with Indiana Academic Standards, district goals, and departmental expectations.
Plan and conduct rehearsals and instruction that develop technical proficiency, musical understanding, artistic expression, and performance skills through the use of effective instructional strategies, assessments, and appropriate music technology.
Organize, rehearse, conduct, and evaluate concerts, festivals, contests, community performances, and other co-curricular opportunities, including coordination of transportation, facilities, equipment needs, event logistics, and supervision of student participation in ISSMA Solo & Ensemble, honor orchestras, chamber music, and related enrichment activities.
Recruit, retain, and develop orchestra students through collaboration with elementary music teachers, instrumental music staff, students, families, and community stakeholders.
Collaborate with district instrumental music staff and administrators to support curriculum alignment, scheduling, facilities, budgeting, resource allocation, and long-range program development.
Maintain and manage departmental resources, including instruments, music library materials, uniforms, equipment, inventory records, and repair or replacement planning.
Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and productive learning environment consistent with district expectations for student conduct and achievement.
Participate in Professional Learning Communities, department meetings, professional development activities, and other district initiatives.
Maintain effective communication with students, families, staff members, administrators, and community partners while serving as a positive representative of Warsaw Community Schools.
Maintain required records, lesson plans, and documentation and uphold professional, ethical, and confidentiality standards.
Teach additional music courses as assigned, including Music Theory, Music Appreciation, General Music, or related subjects.
Any other reasonable additional duties as assigned by Administrators.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Music Education or a related field
Valid Indiana teaching license in Fine Arts: Instrumental & General Music (5–12 or P–12)
Demonstrated knowledge of orchestral pedagogy and repertoire
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Experience leading ensembles, managing logistics, and recruiting students preferred
