Job Title: Technology Specialist Reports to: Director of Technology

Classification: Non-Certified Educational Support Personnel

Exempt/Non-Exempt Status: Non-Exempt Evaluation Cycle: Annually

Licenses/Certificates Required: A minimum of 60 college credit hours or IT industry certification. Ability to demonstrate a general knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and software acquired from any combination of formal technical training or experience. Background or experience in education is helpful.

Terms of Employment: 240 days per year, Monday-Friday, 7:45-3:15

Purpose of the Job: Under supervision of the Director of Technology, manages, maintains, and troubleshoots educational technology across the school district. This role ensures students, teachers, and staff have reliable access to digital learning and teaching tools, hardware, and networks. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, chromebook repair, troubleshooting and resolving classroom software and hardware issues, promptly resolving assigned help tickets, assisting with device deployments, and maintaining an equipment inventory. This position requires strong communication skills; the ability to listen and convey technical terms to non-technical people. This position requires a self-motivated, detail oriented individual with strong analytical and problem solving skills with a willingness to learn new technology. This individual must be customer focused and have the ability to function independently at times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Resolve hardware issues for laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, and desktop computers. Chromebook repair is an essential duty.
  • Fix classroom technology including interactive displays, document cameras, PC’s, laptops, and Chromebook’s.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity regarding Wi-Fi, local area networks, and printers.
  • Support software applications including learning management systems (LMS) and educational applications.
  • Track third-party support cases, RMA’s or insurance claims.
  • Organize tasks and complete in order of priority.
  • Report all technical issues, user requests, and system concerns immediately to the Director of Technology for evaluation and instruction.
  • Perform testing on devices and peripherals to ensure they function as intended.

System & Device Management

  • Configure new devices for students and staff using mobile device management (MDM) tools.
  • Manage devices within Google Workspace for Education.
  • Maintain inventory tracking for all district-owned hardware, software licenses, and peripherals.
  • Deploy system updates and security patches during scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Create and Maintain computer images on the imaging server
  • Assist with the annual deployment and collection of student Chromebook’s.

Staff & Student Assistance

  • Provide helpdesk support via ticketing systems, phone, email, or in-person visits.
  • Create and maintain documentation including simple user guides, FAQs for common technical issues, and internal departmental procedures..

Core Soft Skills

  • Clear communication tailored for both highly technical staff and non-technical staff or students.
  • Patience when assisting users under time constraints.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to ask questions, analyze and diagnose root causes of technical issues.
  • Time management to prioritize urgent classroom interruptions over routine tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be in good physical condition as determined by pre-employment physical. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be performed by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is also required to frequently sit, type, and use a computer monitor. The employee must also be able work on ladders, crawl under desks, tables, or other obstructions, and move furniture. This position requires frequent bending, crawling, and rising; repeatedly, during prolonged times of the year as much as hundreds of times during a day and/or week. Several times of the year require extremely fast paced and physical work involving long periods on the feet, frequent use of the hands, fingers, back, knees, and neck.

The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 120 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally expose to fumes, dust, or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The environment may also consist of extreme heat and dust. Temperatures in working environments are not always regulated. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but could be moderately high at times.
