Assistant Professor of History

Warren Wilson College welcomes applicants for a full-time, continuing faculty position in History. This is an Assistant Professor position in our extended contract system beginning in August 2026.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic teacher-scholar whose work highlights global, international, comparative, and/or world perspectives. The successful applicant will teach introductory survey courses in world histories, upper level courses in the histories of at least one other world region such as Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin American and the Caribbean, and/or the Middle East. The Department is open to expertise on all themes, including (but not exclusively) intellectual history, histories of race, gender, and sexuality, and international and/or comparative politics. In addition, faculty have opportunities to teach study-away courses, summer courses, and first-year seminars. Successful candidates will foster meaningful mentoring relationships with students; create interdisciplinary, experiential, and/or applied learning opportunities; contribute to the life of the Department and the College; and maintain a productive research agenda.

Responsibilities

• Teach 24 credit hours of undergraduate instruction per academic year.
• Provide academic and career advising to students.
• Participate in and contribute to the curriculum of the Public Humanities Department.
• Contribute to the college’s General Education Program, as determined to be appropriate in consultation with the Department Chair.
• Provide service to the College, and engage in ongoing professional development, scholarly and/or creative activity.
• Contribute courses to the International and Social Justice Studies major.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D in History or related field. ABD will be considered.
• One year of successful teaching experience.
• Demonstrated experience with advancing a learning environment that is conducive to all students. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities, selection of course content, subject matter experts and working with diverse student populations.
• Teaching experience specializing in at least one world region such as Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin American and the Caribbean, and/or the Middle East.
• Exhibited commitment to professional growth and scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
• Teaching experience specializing in two or more world regions such as Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin American and the Caribbean, and/or the Middle East.
