JOB GOALS
- To give specialized academic, behavioral, and physical training to students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the classroom.
- Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other materials, considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of the students.
- Devises special teaching tools, techniques, and equipment.
- Evaluates student progress through progress monitoring.
- Establishes expectations for appropriate student behavior.
- Counsels and consults with parents and students.
- Manages materials and supplies.
- Knows and follows all safety rules and procedures.
- Maintains necessary records and completes the necessary paperwork to develop and maintain appropriate IEPs.
- Prepares for assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Attends IEP meetings when necessary.
- Maintains order in classroom and school building.
- Reports to the Department of Human Services first, and then to the principal when obtaining knowledge that a student's health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed because of abuse or neglect.
- Represents the school and the community in a positive manner.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Lifting of objects that may exceed 40 pounds.
- Carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Lifting of students that may weigh in excess of 100 pounds.
- Other physical demands may be required as needed.

- Ten month year.
- Salary and work year to be established by Board.

- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
