INSTRUCTIONAL COACH

POSITION: Instructional Coach

DESCRIPTION:

An Instructional Coach is a self-motivated relationship builder with both content and instructional expertise, along with experience in instructional coaching

REPORTS TO:

Building Principal and Supervisor of Instruction

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field (preferred but not required)
2. Extensive knowledge of effective instructional practices that impact student learning
3. Deep understanding of the Tennessee Academic Standards and the instructional shifts necessary for effective implementation of the standards
4. Experience as a classroom teacher with a track record of improving student achievement
5. Experience working with adults and an understanding of how adults learn (preferred)
6. Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including school and district leaders
7. Strategic thinker who uses evidence to make decisions
8. Strong planning and organizational skills
9. Strong oral and written communication skills; active listener
10. Enthusiastic about giving and receiving feedback and helping others to learn and develop

DISTRICT OBLIGATIONS

1. Attend district instructional coach meetings

1. When needed, lead district professional development for teachers and/or school leaders
2. Work collaboratively with all coaches and schools, including participation in coaching mentorship within the district.
3. Deliver state/district initiatives to school leaders/teachers to assist in improving instructional practices and student outcomes
4. Participate in ongoing coaching professional development

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Develop, lead, and participate in ongoing and job-embedded professional development for the purpose of improving student achievement
2. Mentor, observe, and coach classroom teachers for the purpose of improving instruction
3. Participate in appropriate meetings, conferences, and professional development
4. Aid in the selection of materials/supplies that address identified student academic weaknesses
5. Assist in coordinating educational programs
6. Demonstrate exemplary classroom practices
7. Maintain a variety of manual and electronic files/records
8. Analyze school and classroom data for the purpose of making informed decisions relative to instructional practices
9. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

10.Regular and punctual attendance required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 40 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

1. Excellent communication skills both oral and written
2. Computer skills

Normal working environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

220-day contract. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
