Warren City Health District is currently seeking an enthusiastic Community Health Educator who is passionate about contributing to positive health outcomes for the people in the Warren area.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Health Educator is responsible for working with the health department team to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies, and environments. This includes the following:
- Assess the healthcare and wellness needs of the community and specific populations. Address health disparities by assisting in the assessment and development of evidence-based health education and promotion programs. Develop targeted community engagement activities to promote health and wellness. Set goals and objectives; implement program activities; and coordinate and conduct programs. Responsible for the development of health education and promotion materials, and for publicity for programs, events, and related activities.
- Responsible for setting up venues for the Mobile Health Unit (MHU), advertising those venues on social media, distributing flyers in person to venues prior to MHU arrival.
- Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, coordinating, and analyzing the effectiveness of health education and promotion programs including but not limited to compiling statistical data, field activities, and other reports as required. Provide strategical analysis of the strengths and challenges regarding the programs.
- Actively participates in planning and administration of grants.
- Participate in applicable community groups and act as the local health department liaison to community groups and agencies, health education groups and healthcare organizations. Coordinate with interest groups and healthcare specialists.
- Must establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Be part of the Accreditation Team assisting with annual reports, and other Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) requirements.
- Other health department duties as requested.
- This position may be assigned duties that will involve travel.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
- All health department employees have an emergency response role and may be expected to respond to threats to public health in accordance with the Warren City Health District Emergency Response Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health education, Community Health Education, Nursing, Public Health, Health Promotion or related field.
Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science, or a related behavioral science, and three years of experience planning, developing, implementing, and promoting health education projects, for the required education.
Experience: Three years of experience as a Health Educator in Community Health preferred, or three years of Health Care or Health Promotion experience in a professional work setting.
Experience working and communicating with diverse populations.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing; utilize excellent interpersonal skills; maintain good working relationships; execute problem solving skills; make appropriate decisions and develop program goals and objectives; evaluate program outcomes, impacts and processes.
Knowledge of common community health problems and health care practices. Experience in planning, developing, implementing, and promoting health education projects.
Skill in public speaking, program planning, community assessment, survey methods, and writing reports.
Experience with computers and Microsoft Office software.
Experience with social media platforms.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle to travel to events and training. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and insurance.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 32 per week
Schedule:
