Summary Description:  The Adjunct Instructor of Chemistry reports to the Dean of the Division of Natural Sciences and Health and is responsible for teaching chemistry courses on the traditional campus.  Terms on the traditional campus typically run 15 weeks. At Warner Pacific University, chemistry in the traditional program primarily serves majors in the Biological Sciences and students taking science for core requirements.
 
Primary Job Duties:
  • Teach assigned courses, including lecture and laboratory sections as assigned, in organic chemistry, modeling current best practices in teaching, demonstrating a commitment to sound andragogical and pedagogical practices. Courses may include, but are not limited to, Organic Chemistry, Introduction to Chemistry and General Chemistry.
  • Mentor students during the course.
  • Clearly communicate to students when and how to secure instruction and feedback outside of regular course meeting hours.
  • Provide prompt and thorough feedback to students to ensure their ability to incorporate changes before subsequent assignments.
  • Work collegially with the Dean, faculty, staff, and students; providing timely and professional communication.
  • Understand and promote the mission, values, and core themes of Warner Pacific University.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills in all interactions with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Participate in the professional development opportunities provided by the institution.
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding the mission of the university and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement.
  • Exhibit commitment to inclusiveness and sensitivity in areas of national origin, ethnicity, culture, gender and disabilities.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in chemistry or education/teaching required.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry
  • Professional experience in the field of Chemistry.
  • College teaching experience in relevant curriculum.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Physical Demands – Work Environment:  The position is located in a typical classroom/office environment.  Attire appropriate for the particular course is expected (business casual, fitness/athletic wear, etc.).
