POSITION SUMMARY
The Fuel & Lube Technician is responsible for fueling, lubricating, servicing, and performing preventative maintenance inspections on heavy equipment, trucks, and support vehicles used in civil construction operations. This position plays a critical role in maximizing equipment uptime and ensuring safe, efficient jobsite operations. The technician will transport and handle fuel, oils, lubricants, coolants, and other fluids while complying with all DOT, environmental, and company safety regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Safely operate fuel and lube service trucks on construction projects and public roadways.
· Fuel heavy construction equipment, on-road trucks, generators, and support equipment.
· Perform routine lubrication services on equipment according to manufacturer and company maintenance schedules.
· Check and replenish engine oil, hydraulic fluid, coolant, DEF, transmission fluid, and grease points.
· Conduct daily inspections of equipment and report maintenance concerns, leaks, or deficiencies.
· Complete preventative maintenance services including filter changes and fluid servicing.
· Maintain accurate records of fuel consumption, fluid inventories, inspections, and service activities.
· Transport fuel and hazardous materials in accordance with DOT and Hazmat regulations.
· Inspect fueling equipment, tanks, hoses, pumps, and related systems to ensure safe operation.
· Respond to spills and implement spill containment procedures as required.
· Coordinate with equipment operators, mechanics, and project supervisors regarding maintenance needs.
· Keep service trucks, fueling areas, and work sites clean and organized.
· Follow all company, OSHA, DOT, MSHA (where applicable), and environmental regulations.
· Assist mechanics with basic maintenance and repair tasks assigned.
· Perform other duties as required to support construction operations.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with all applicable safety regulations and company policies
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Maintain situational awareness in high-risk environments
- Follow lockout/tagout and hazard reporting procedures
- Participate in safety meetings and training
- Immediately report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or GED preferred.
· Valid Class A CDL with a current Hazmat Endorsement.
· Clean driving record and ability to meet company insurability requirements.
· Minimum 2 years of experience servicing heavy construction equipment, trucks, or related machinery preferred.
· Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, lubricants, and preventative maintenance practices.
· Ability to safely operate fuel/lube trucks and construction equipment.
· Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures.
· Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
· Basic computer and mobile device skills for maintenance tracking and reporting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Tanker Endorsement preferred.
· Experience in heavy civil, highway, utility, earthwork, mining, or site development construction.
· Knowledge of DOT regulations related to fuel transportation.
· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
· First Aid/CPR certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to:
· Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work around heavy equipment for extended periods.
· Ability to enter and exit service trucks and construction equipment multiple times throughout the day.
· Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, dust, and mud.
· Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and overtime as required by project schedules.
Working Conditions
- Construction jobsites, equipment yards, and maintenance facilities.
- Exposure to fuel, lubricants, dust, noise, vibration, and heavy equipment traffic.
- Requires strict adherence to safety procedures and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
