The Hospice Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, supporting, and retaining hospice volunteers who provide compassionate companionship and support to patients and families. This role ensures compliance with hospice regulations while strengthening community engagement and enhancing the quality of end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Program Management
- Recruit, interview, and onboard hospice volunteers
- Coordinate volunteer assignments based on patient and family needs
- Maintain required volunteer documentation and service hour tracking
- Ensure compliance with hospice regulatory standards
- Develop and deliver volunteer orientation programs
- Provide ongoing education and support opportunities
- Ensure volunteers understand hospice philosophy and scope of service
- Match volunteers with appropriate patient/family situations
- Monitor volunteer visits and satisfaction
- Address concerns promptly and professionally
- Represent hospice services at community events
- Build relationships with local organizations, schools, and faith communities
- Promote awareness of hospice volunteer opportunities
- Maintain volunteer files per Medicare Conditions of Participation
- Track volunteer hours to meet regulatory requirements
- Support quality improvement initiatives
Required
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience coordinating volunteers or community programs
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Hospice or healthcare experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in social services, healthcare, education, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Knowledge of end-of-life care principles
- Experience with volunteer training programs
- Compassionate communication
- Strong organization and follow-through
- Public speaking and recruitment ability
- Relationship-building with community partners
- Documentation accuracy and regulatory awareness
- Full-time position M-F 8-5
- Combination of office, community outreach, and occasional patient-related coordination
- Some evening or event availability may be required
