What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Design Engineer position at Warm Audio LLC?
About Warm Audio
Warm Audio designs and manufactures high‑end professional audio gear for recording studios, live‑sound rigs and broadcast facilities. Warm Audio’s mission is to blend classic analog warmth with modern engineering practices to deliver products that engineers and musicians trust to capture every nuance of their sound.
Role Overview
We are seeking a senior‑level hardware designer who will co‑develop pro‑audio equipment from concept to production. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in mixed‑signal audio circuit design, PCB layout, and hardware bring‑up, and can guide junior engineers through the full product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Concept & Architecture – Define system specifications, select components, and create schematic capture for new audio products.
- Mixed‑Signal PCB Design – Design high‑fidelity audio circuitry (analog & digital) with stringent noise and EMI requirements; set stack‑up, material choices, and design rules for manufacturability.
- Hardware Prototyping – Perform bench‑level bring‑up, functional testing, and root‑cause analysis using DMMs, oscilloscopes, audio analyzers, and bench top power supplies.
- Compliance & Reliability – Ensure designs meet FCC, CE, RoHS, and other relevant standards; verify EMI immunity and isolation in high‑EMI environments.
- Documentation & Handoff – Produce clear design files, BOMs, test procedures, and manufacturing documentation for hand‑off to production.
- Collaboration – Work closely with firmware, industrial‑design, and acoustic teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Mentorship – Guide junior engineers on best practices in mixed‑signal design and PCB layout.
- Ad‑hoc Projects – Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or project manager.
Required Qualifications & Education
B.S. in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related field). Note: 10 years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
Experience
Minimum 6 years designing mixed‑signal audio circuits (including both analog and digital sections).
Technical Skills
- Complex mixed‑signal PCB design (Altium Designer preferred) Audio topologies (pre‑amps, power amps, DAC/ADC, codecs) Power design – linear and switching Implementation of digital audio interfaces (I²S, SPI, I²C, RS‑232) Hands‑on experience with test equipment: DMM, bench‑top power supply, oscilloscope, audio analyzer
Design Practices
- Proven ability to meet noise, distortion, and EMI specifications; experience defining stack‑up, materials, and design rules for high‑performance PCBs.
Soft Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team; excellent problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Experience with audio converters, codecs, and DSP‑ready hardware.
- Advanced proficiency in Altium Designer (or comparable high‑level PCB CAD tool).
- Knowledge of compliance standards: FCC, CE Mark, RoHS, and relevant audio safety regulations.
- Demonstrated mentorship or leadership of junior engineers.
- Familiarity with signal‑integrity and power‑integrity simulation tools (e.g., HyperLynx, ADS, SPICE).
