We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Scrap Metal Laborer/Buyer to join our team at our Waldorf, MD location.
Job Description:
As a Scrap Metal Laborer/Buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing nonferrous and ferrous scrap metals from customers, ensuring fair pricing, and developing strong relationships with our customers. You will also help the warehouse and process and clean material as needed. The ideal candidate is customer-focused; knowledge of scrap metals or recycling is a plus, but not required. This is not an office job.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and purchase scrap metal materials, ensuring accurate pricing and proper grading
- Process and separate materials
- Provide exceptional customer service to both existing and new clients
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, contractors, and walk-in customers
- Ensure that all safety and environmental standards are met on site
- Accurately record and report purchases, weights, and prices
- Assist with general yard operations as needed
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in scrap metal purchasing or related field preferred
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
