Role Description The Special Education Paraeducator is a full-time, on-site role based at Wardlaw Elementary School in Vallejo, CA. This role supports students with special education needs in both general education and specialized classroom settings, following teacher and specialist guidance. Daily responsibilities include assisting with instructional activities, reinforcing lessons, adapting classroom materials, and providing one-on-one or small-group support to help students meet their learning goals. The paraeducator helps implement behavior support plans, promotes positive social interactions, and ensures a safe, structured environment. Additional tasks include monitoring student progress, supporting personal care where needed, documenting observations, and collaborating with teachers, related service providers, and families to support individualized education program (IEP) goals.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and families
- Experience Working With Children, particularly in school settings, with an understanding of child development
- Knowledge of Special Education practices and comfort supporting students with diverse learning and behavioral needs
- Behavior Management skills, including the ability to follow and consistently implement behavior support plans
- Ability to follow educator direction, work as part of a team, and maintain confidentiality regarding student information
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of college coursework in education or related fields preferred
- Basic literacy, numeracy, and computer skills to assist with classroom instruction and documentation
