Job Description
This position is responsible for gathering demographic information for all surgical patients, initiating a chart, and assuring full chart completion prior to the admission of surgical patients. This person also receives incoming telephone calls and directs them appropriately, assists with surgical patient scheduling and registering patients.
Responsibilities
(40%)*Obtain a PCF (Pre Procedure Communication Form) on all patients, log the information, pull appropriate orders and create a chart. Handle difficult situations that arise with scheduling and registration process; responsible for making necessary changes for rescheduled or canceled surgeries or procedures. Follows scheduling guidelines so that patient flow is smooth. Ensures proper and timely scheduling of all patients. Performs general receptionist duties for the unit/department including answering the phone, referring calls, taking messages, ordering supplies, etc.
(30%)* Fax out orders to appropriate facilities and obtain testing results. Obtain requested records from other departments as well as other facilities. Research any deficiencies. Follow up with any needs of the Anesthesiologist after anesthesia review. Provides education and training to surgical office staff regarding scheduling and patient information needs.
(30%)* Complete all charts by documenting all ordered testing, all results, all deficiencies, and any need for further testing in the Electronic Medical record system. Label and put charts into Jackets.
Certifications and Licensures
Equivalent Experience -
Required Education
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Other Information
Experience, Training And Skills
Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Minimum Two Years Health Care Experience Required.
Ability to demonstrate exceptional communication skills with physicians, physician’s offices, patients, outside facilities, and ancillary departments on a one‑to‑one basis.
