What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Carpenter position at Wappingers Central School District?
Repairs cabinets, desks, chairs, tables and other similar equipment;
Repairs doors, windows, floors, stair rails;
Constructs and installs cabinets, book cases, shelves, closets, tables, platforms, posts, and bulletin boards;
Installs new doors and outfits those with the proper hardware;
Replaces window glass and cords;
Makes and repairs screens;
Builds scaffolds;
Sands and refinishes floors, desks, woodwork, chairs and tables;
Repairs tool handles;
Builds forms for concrete work;
Operates woodworking machinery such as lathes, planers, drum and belt, sanders, borers, rip, cross cut, band, and jigsaws and mortises;
May perform other maintenance tasks such as painting, minor plumbing masonry or electrical repairs, etc.;
Does related work as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the trade; skill in the application of such knowledge to work assignments; ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow rough sketches and oral instructions; ability to operate common woodworking equipment; ability to rig and work from scaffolds; ability to plan and work independently; ability to get along well with others; good motor and hand and eye coordination; manual dexterity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One (1) year of experience as a journeyman carpenter.
