Role Description The Senior Accountant (Accounting Manager) is a full-time, on-site role based in Houston, TX. This role oversees day-to-day accounting operations, including managing the general ledger, reviewing journal entries, monitoring fixed asset activity, and ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements. The person in this position will supervise and review the work of junior accounting staff, assist with month-end and year-end close processes, and support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance with accounting standards, coordinating with auditors and tax professionals, and identifying process improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls. The Senior Accountant (Accounting Manager) will also interact directly with clients, provide clear explanations of financial results, and respond to ad hoc financial and analytical requests.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing Financial Statements, with the ability to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Demonstrated Analytical Skills and Finance knowledge to interpret financial data, support decision-making, and provide meaningful insights to leadership and clients.
- Hands-on experience with Journal Entries (Accounting), including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Working knowledge of Fixed Assets, including capitalization policies, depreciation, disposals, and related reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA license or active CPA candidacy strongly preferred.
- Several years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in public accounting or a similar professional services environment, including experience supervising or mentoring staff.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, with attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders and work effectively with diverse clients and team members.
Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight: Lead day-to-day accounting operations with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
- Technical Accounting: Manage accrual, cash-basis, and other applicable accounting methods.
- Reporting & Reconciliation: Perform bank and general ledger reconciliations, payroll processing, and related compliance reporting.
- Financial Closing: Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Statement Preparation: Prepare trial balances, full financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow), and complex depreciation schedules.
- Leadership: Support process improvements and mentor junior accounting staff as part of the Management Track.
