General Summary
Primary function of this job is to provide clerical office support and customer service assistance, paying attention to detail and knowledge of general office procedures and departmental activities and programs. Employees in this job have no formal supervisory role, however, work as part of a team and are responsible for ensuring that the team meets its objectives.
Employees must meet the minimum requirements, conditions of employment, and be able to perform successfully all essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommondations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (may include but are not limited to the following)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A background check may be required for an individual hired, transferred, reclassified, or promoted into this job. The categories of background checks may include, but are not limited to: confirmation of a persons' identity; review of criminal conviction records; verification of educational degree, license, or certificate required for the position; review of Department of Motor Vehicles records; and/or drug testing as required and allowable by law.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Work follows well-established procedures. Employees are provided daily instructions and tasks are completed within specified guidelines. Errors at this level could cause minimimal, short-term consequences with some financial impact or cost, reduced service to the public, and/or some negative citizen reaction which may require intervention from a supervisor and might impact others outside of the department.
Physical Demands, Work Environment, And Other Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies (minimum Requirements)
Effective 1st of the month after 30 days of employment
Vision: Self-insured plan for employees and their dependents. Coverage for frames and lenses or contact lenses once every 24 months.
Vision: Voluntary Vision plan $10 co-pay for exam. $130 frame or contact lens allowance, discounts on LASIK, $25 co-pay on single, bifocal and trifocals.
Dental: Diagnostic and Preventive services covered 100%. Restorative Services covered 75%. Orthodontic services covered 50% (to age 19) with a lifetime maximum of $1,000. Maximum payment for other services is $1,000 per person, per contract year.
Life: 1x annual salary, minimum $20,000, effective the next day after 6 months of continuous employment.
Short Term Disability: Eligible after 180 days of employment. Plan pays, after a 7 calendar day waiting period, 66 2/3% of regular pre-disability earnings for a maximum of 182 days.
Long Term Disability: Plan provides 60% of regular pre-disability earnings for a maximum of 24 months.
Holidays: 12 traditional days, plus 1 floating holiday
Personal Leave: Eligible after 90 days of continuous employment. Receive 8 days annually.
Vacation: Eligible after 6 months of employment. Vacation time is accrued each pay period and not given in a lump sum. Schedule begins at 10 days per year, up to a maximum of 25 days per year after 25 years.
Retirement: Grand Traverse offers a Defined Contribution plan through the Municipal Employees Retirement System. With a 2 to 1 match, Grand Traverse County contributes 6% with an employee match of 3%. Without the employee match, GTC automatically contributes 3% into the retirement fund. Fully vested at 6 years, and partial vesting after 3 years.

- This is a regular half-time position covered under the Teamsters General Bargaining Unit and includes a pro-rated benefit package
- Start date for this position is January 5, 2009, or later.
- Hours are generally Mon-Fri from Noon-3:45 p.m. (18.75 hrs/week)
- Selected candidates will be invited for computer skills testing to include data entry and keyboarding.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (may include but are not limited to the following)
- Sorts, processess, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
- Provides basic customer service, including delivery of accurate, prompt, and courteous assistance to internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing, within established procedures, referring questionable items to a supervisor.
- Copies, collates, or staples records, reports or other materials.
- Assists other clerical staff as needed.
- Attends a reception desk and screens calls and visitors.
- Supplies routine information to the public, other employees or agencies.
- Performs basic mathematical calculations to ensure accuracy of receipts, fines, fees, or other payments according to a standard schedule.
- Monitors and maintains appropriate levels of supplies and materials in support of unit operations and activities.
- Sorts and files materials (paper, computer or imaging), retrieves file materials, and keeps a record of file movement.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduation or G.E.D. preferred.
- Additional course work or limited specific education or skills may be required depending upon assignment, including familiarity with computers
