OVERVIEW OF ROLE 

The Assistant Manager of Retail Operations supports the visitor experience through excellent customer service and thoughtful retail selections that complement the collection and exhibitions at the Walters Art Museum.   This position also contributes financially to the Institution’s mission-driven operations through attaining sales goals and professional store management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Assistant Manager of Retail Operations will oversee the purchasing, customer service, point-of-sale system, inventory control, and reporting. Key duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Maintain the retail operation in a manner consistent with the WAM culture, our customer service focus, and visual and merchandising standards.
• Create and maintain new and existing vendor relationships 
• Drive sales by prioritizing positive customer experience, strategic store operations, and effective merchandising.
• Collaborate across teams to purchase merchandise, design creative displays and implement strategic sales campaigns based on exhibitions, programming, and need.
• Track store sales, communicate sales expectations to staff regularly, and coach staff based on individual sales performance.
• Model, coach and teach retail operations team to deliver exemplary customer service and uphold WAM merchandising and operational standards.
• Ensure compliance with all guidelines involved with safety, loss prevention, inventory control and cash handling procedures.
• Recruit, train, and oversee a knowledgeable and motivated sales team.
• Be knowledgeable of Museum Cafe operations and support Cafe staff and procedures as needed.
• Achieve and maintain ServSafe Manager certification. 
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS 

• BA degree from a four-year college or university and 1 year of related retail management experience, or 5 years of related retail management experience.
• Solid experience in all aspects of retail store management.
• Demonstrated Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Proven leadership skills by building trust, credibility and partnership with supervisors and direct reports. Demonstrated ability to effectively build, motivate, and supervise a diverse staff.
• Solid experience with cash management, inventory management, merchandising, and POS cash register systems.
• Experience interpreting, analyzing, and utilizing retail sales data and metrics.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization verbally and in written communication.
• Ability to conduct themselves with integrity, discretion, and maintain confidentiality when appropriate.
• Organized and detail-oriented with superb time management skills.
• Effective problem solving, critical thinking and multi-tasking experience are essential.  
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines, manage multiple projects at once, and respond to changing and new projects and priorities with confidence.
• Demonstrated ability to be flexible in a dynamic and fast-moving, agile organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Experience using Counterpoint a plus.

SCHEDULED SHIFT

• Wednesday – Friday: 9pm-5pm, Thursday: 12pm-8pm; Saturday – Sunday: 9am-5pm
• Event weeks are subject to different hours, as needed 

Salary Amount $38,00 to $52,000
